Copper, Experimental Sound Installation

December&#38;nbsp;2022

being body explores the nomadic sciences of the rhizomatic body through creative robotics and experimental sound. The installation is based on a somatic method reflection that accesses the subtle poetry of the heart, bones and skin.
&#38;nbsp;In collaboration with Sound Designer Nikhil Nagaraj, Creative Coders Jasraj Paik and Hrishikesh Wagle.

being body was conceived within the BangaloREsidency at Goethe Institute / Max Mueller Bhavan and exhibited at 1ShantiRoad Studio/Gallery, Bangalore India in December 2022.</description>

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Everything In-Between is a series of copper sculptures investigating the rhizomatic role the metal plays within the representational limitations of modern photography. In a fully structured system like photography, copper is an element that is capable of the photographic process yet allows for far more potential than the system does. A materiality like copper therefore disrupts the current order of knowledge. Expanding the realm of contemporary photography beyond its field, the categories we have created are exploding rapidly and call for restructuring of previously conceived systems therefore invoking a return to materiality. Returning to a truth to material in this context is returning to a truth to existence.

Difference in Repetition
Video Performance
2017

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Throughout the self-reflection themed art residency Every Me in Adana, Turkey, it is particularly the rooftops that call Heubusch’s attention. During one of the encounters with the locals, she comes across the custom of kite making and flying them from the city’s rooftops. One of the key characteristics of the kite is to be lead by the forces of the elements. The dancing kite seeks the overview, it becomes fluid in perspective and maintains an elemental playfulness. Inspired by the language of the kite, Heubusch steps into a discourse where the body becomes medium and narrator of the environments she encounters.

Starting from a concept of being body beyond the binary and beyond the Cartesian thought of body and mind being two separate systems, a dialogue will be created in which the body is our conductor. The activities will develop organically and intuitively from the indvidual's perception of being body to a sensing of the collective body.“The other stands within a space that I will never occupy. Through this, he or she eludes my relation to spatiality. What was familiar to me in the perception of space is disconcerted by the presence of the other. Unless I include this other within my world, which annuls them as other. Moreover, the other moves in space, and this prevents me from assigning to him, or her, a place where they would in some way be at my disposal.” &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;

Together With Touch
Experimental Sound, Performance, Twitter Data
Bangalore, India 2021

 A public performance with interwoven live Mental Health data, explored through contemporary dance and generative sound. The term contact, deriving from the latin con- and -tangere, "together with touch”, gained significant urgency since the Covid Pandemic in 2020. While physical contact (touch) was being radically restricted, visual artist Lena Heubusch (@lenaheubusch) invites performer and mental health specialist Avril Unger(@thestormfactory), sound engineer Nikhil Nagaraj(@nik.nagaraj) and creative coder Gaurav Singh(@mathscapes) to converse at the intersection of their practices. Heubusch poses questions such as: How do we experience a 'being body' through the lens of the digital realm? Avril Stormy Unger physically responds to sound that is generated by live Twitter data; popular hashtags, terms that according to statistics have the most “weight” concerning current mental health conditions. *Goethe Institut Bangalore(@goetheinstitutbangalore) presents this project as part of the Artistic Exchange at Goethe Institut Bangalore, facilitated by Walkin Studios. publicdomain.garden (@publicdomain.garden) is a project that explores the changing landscape of public life, and hybridity of the virtual and physical that we live in. The project is conceptualised by Walkin Studios and funded by the International Relief Fund for Organisations in Culture and Education 2021 of the German Federal Foreign Office, the Goethe-Institut and other partners. goethe.de/relieffund
